Dentures and Partials

What exactly are Dentures?

Dentures and partials are removable prosthetic appliances that help to correct missing teeth. Dentures help to enhance your smile and fill in areas where teeth are missing. Dentures and partials are made specifically for each individual patient, so you can benefit from a customized piece that is comfortable and easy to wear. With proper care, your dentures and partials can last for years.

Why would you need Dentures?

Dentures are recommended because they replace missing teeth. When you are missing many or all of your teeth, it can make it difficult and even impossible to enjoy your favorite foods. Over time, your cheeks may even begin to sink in, causing you to look older than you actually are. Dentures are removable prosthetic appliances that are made to be comfortable and long-wearing. Dentures are removable appliances, but implant-supported dentures are able for a more secure-fitting grip. You will enjoy the benefits of wearing a denture if you have been feeling badly about your appearance and smile.

What makes you a candidate for Dentures?

Dentures and partials are ideal for people who are missing many or all of their teeth. Because the prosthetic is comfortable and easy to wear, it can be worn throughout the entire day and taken out at night to be cleaned. With proper care, you can expect the denture or partial to last for many years. After this time period, it is a good idea to have a new denture or partial made. The dentures are matched to your mouth and an existing dentition for a natural look. Due to wearing new dentures, you can benefit from your entire smile and face looking youthful.

What should you expect when having Dentures made?

You will come into the office and have impressions taken of your gum tissue and surrounding teeth. These impressions, or molds, are then sent out to a local dental lab where techs will create the new prosthesis for you. It takes a few visits to get the dentures back. We may need to adjust the fit and bite of the denture to ensure that it is comfortable. It is not uncommon to need several adjustments before the denture fits perfectly. You may need to have the denture remade if you lose or gain a lot of weight. It is important to take good care of your denture by soaking and cleaning it nightly. This prolongs its life span and ensures that it smells fresh and looks great.
