Dental Bridge

What are Dental Bridges?

Fixed dental bridges are designed to replace missing teeth. If you are missing a tooth, the bridge will attach to the two surrounding teeth, with a false tooth in the middle that rests on the gum line. Most bridges can last for years, and even several decades, before needing replacement. They are a viable alternative to implants for patients who cannot undergo oral surgery. The procedure is quick and easy, normally requiring about two appointments to complete.

Why are Bridges necessary?

A dental bridge is often recommended to patients who are missing one or more natural teeth. The bridge is placed in the mouth using high-quality, durable dental cement. Your bridge will help improve the look of your smile, while simultaneously improving oral functioning. Bridges can be placed on virtually any tooth in the mouth to replace what is missing. This gives the appearance that you have a tooth where it is missing, while simultaneously improving overall oral functioning.

Alisha and Dr. Seth made my visit for a filling quick and painless. Initially, I was nervous but once the work started I began to see they knew exactly what they were doing and worked well together. I would recommend Carolina Smile to all friends and family.

What makes you a good candidate for dental bridges?

Dental bridges are often beneficial to patients who may not want oral surgery to place implants, or cannot undergo oral surgery. Bridges are long-lasting, in most cases staying firmly in place for decades before replacement is needed. To determine if you will need a bridge, you can come in for an exam and consultation. We can even remove an old bridge, replacing it with a brand new one, as necessary.

What can you expect with a bridge appointment?

The first step is to numb the area with a local anesthetic. After you are comfortable, the two surrounding teeth are filed down to accommodate the new bridge. Impressions are taken of the teeth and sent to a lab where a permanent bridge is made for you. You will come in for a second appointment and have the bridge placed. It is not uncommon for bridges to need slight adjustments to improve bite and feel. We can give you important advice on how to care for your new bridge once it has been placed.

What makes you a good candidate for Exams & Cleanings?

Everyone is a good candidate to come in for dental exams and cleanings. In fact, children should go to the dentist as soon as their first tooth comes through the gums. By encouraging your children to practice good dental hygiene and coming to regular dental checkups, your child can have good lifelong oral hygiene practices. Even patients who wear full dentures should come into the office for routine dental examinations.

Even if it has been awhile since you have seen a dentist, it is never too late to start taking better care of your teeth. Our mission is to provide you with the care that you need in a warm and family-friendly environment. Additionally, we can pre-schedule your checkup appointments so that you never have to remember to schedule another appointment.

First, you will receive x-rays, which help with diagnosing any underlying problems you may have. Next, you will receive a full dental cleaning performed by a hygienist. The hygienist will get rid of any excess plaque and tartar that have accumulated on your teeth that normal brushing and flossing cannot reach. Next, your teeth will be cleaned and polished to give you a brighter smile. After the cleaning is finished, our doctors will come and perform a comprehensive examination. This exam will check for signs of decay, loose fillings, crowns, as well as a variety of other problems. Additionally, we provide oral cancer screening exams. We will also take a series of intraoral pictures. Then, we will take a digital impression of your mouth looking for wear patterns over time to monitor any changes.

It is important to always make time for your dental care twice a year. If you think you need a dental exam and cleaning, call our office today so that we can help schedule an appointment to better assist you.
